Just about a year ago, in this newsletter titled My Portrait Photography Challenge: 1 Light. 1 Wall, I presented a project still in progress.

The project involved using only one light, one plain white wall, and the appropriate combination of a specific modifier and deliberate light direction. I sought narrative moods ranging from soft/cheerful to hard/dramatic.
Some of the lighting patterns included Backlighting, Butterfly Lighting, Side Lighting, and Rembrandt, among others.
Seven Sets at a Glance
Set 1: Approachable Glamour (Halo-Backlighting)
The Halo-Backlighting portrait, embodying Approachable Glamour, aims to capture radiant, joyful elegance in a flattering light. A striking gold sequined dress and the subject's warm personality create an engaging image, highlighting effortless sophistication and natural charm.
Set 2: Glamour Rebel (Loop Lighting)
The Loop Lighting portrait, themed Glamour Rebel, projects a powerful and confident contemporary glamour through an engaging, slightly edgy persona. Juxtaposing classic pearls and bold lipstick with a modern leather jacket and skull brooch creates a striking visual narrative of multifaceted, strong femininity.
Set 3: High-Key Beauty (Backlighting)
The Backlighting portrait, themed High-Key Beauty, conveys pure, radiant, timeless beauty through a high-key, black-and-white format. Focusing on the subject's expressive face and projected warmth, it aims for an ethereal, angelic quality, resulting in a classic and emotionally uplifting image.
Set 4: Vintage Style (Rembrandt Lighting)
The Rembrandt Lighting portrait, Vintage-styled, aims to evoke timeless elegance and gentle nostalgia, akin to a cherished heirloom photograph, by capturing the subject's warm demeanor. Vintage-style post-processing, a soft pink dress, and a gentle smile further amplify this intent, contributing to a feeling of quiet grace and enduring beauty.
Set 5: Enigmatic Allure (Loop Lighting)
The Loop Lighting portrait conveys an Enigmatic Allure. It aims for a sophisticated and fashion-forward image, highlighting elegant poise and an intense gaze. Glamorous styling and controlled lighting create a moody, polished aesthetic imbued with mystery and refined confidence.
Set 6: Timeless Elegance (Side Lighting)
The Side Lighting portrait, themed Timeless Elegance, captures an effortless, artsy, and windswept sense of classic yet dynamic beauty. The black-and-white conversion enhances its timeless quality by highlighting the flowing lines, focusing on form, light, and emotion.
Set 7: Simple, Professional Headshots (Clamshell Lighting)
The Clamshell Lighting portrait, or Simple, Professional Headshots, aims to create a contemporary, polished, and confident image ideal for professional business branding. It presents the subject as approachable yet authoritative and capable, elevating classic business attire with a modern, direct presentation and an engaging expression.
