Halloween is around the corner, and there's a new challenge running in the set.a.light 3D Community: the #SPOOKYCHALLENGE. We're looking for the scariest setup, built and lit in set.a.light 3D.

Ghosts, witches, or pure shadow play: what matters is that your light tells the scary story. Watch our 27-second reel below, then get your scene started.

Lighting Ideas for Goosebumps

Not sure where to start? Four classics that work every time:

  • Light from below: the campfire-story look. A low key light flips the shadows we're used to seeing on a face, and even a friendly model suddenly looks unsettling.
  • Hard shadows: take the diffuser off. A bare source throws crisp shadows onto the wall, and sometimes the shadow is scarier than whatever casts it.
  • Cold moonlight against warm candlelight: cool light from one side, a warm glow from the other. The contrast tells the story for you.
  • Silhouettes: light only from behind. What the viewer can't see, their imagination fills in.

Enter the #SPOOKYCHALLENGE

Classic with pumpkins and candles, cinematic like a horror movie poster, or subtle with nothing but a shadow on the wall. It's your call.

Your Task

  • The Challenge: Create a setup around Halloween & horror.
  • One setup per person.

How to Enter

  • Build your scene in set.a.light 3D.
  • Open the Community tab → Challenges → Spooky Challenge.
  • Click “Upload setup now”. The upload button only appears inside set.a.light 3D, not in your web browser.

Deadline & Voting

  • Submission deadline: October 25, 2026
  • Voting: October 26 to 30. All community members can vote.
  • Winners: revealed on Halloween, October 31

The top three setups get featured with your name on @elixxiersoftware and in our newsletter.

Scary yes, explicit no: we can't feature setups with nudity or graphic violence. By submitting, you allow us to show your setup with your name on Instagram and in our newsletter as part of the challenge.
